Marching to a Different Drummer: Understanding ADHD in Women

The manifestation of ADHD symptoms in females can differ significantly from traditional male presentations, leading to greater difficulties in obtaining appropriate care and treatment(Attoe & Climie, 2023; Littman & Wagenberg, 2023). This presentation will focus on the unique experiences of women with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed, these women frequently encounter emotional, social, and professional obstacles exacerbated by societal expectations (Littman et al., 2021; Stenner et al., 2019).With increased awareness of the lived experiences of adult females with ADHD, clinicians can be better prepared to tailor interventions that address specific challenges such as time management, emotional regulation, and self-esteem, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of treatment and support strategies.
